Lumefantrine

Malaria treatment: Used in combination with artemether to form artemether-lumefantrine (Coartem), a first-line treatment for Plasmodium falciparum malaria.
Mechanism of action: It interferes with the malaria parasite’s ability to metabolize heme, causing toxic accumulation and parasite death.
Effective in drug-resistant malaria cases: Lumefantrine-based therapies are particularly important in regions where chloroquine resistance is widespread.
